Hi, I’m Jess! The reader, gamer, indoor soccer player, animal lover, and serial hobby collector behind Nookish Notions.

I’ve always been the kind of person who gets completely absorbed in something, only to discover a new interest and excitedly add that to the rotation. Books, games, travel, puzzles, piano and random crafts.

Nookish Notions is where I put all of it.

Why I Started Nookish Notions

I created Nookish Notions because I wanted one place where I could share the things I genuinely enjoy without forcing every interest into one narrow niche.

I wanted somewhere to talk about books, movies, shows, games, hobbies, travel, wellness, and everything else that comes with everyday life. More than that, I wanted to create a positive community for curious people who love discovering new things and sharing what they’re excited about.

The name Nookish Notions comes from the idea that there is a nook for everything. Some interests fit neatly onto a shelf, while others need a little more room. Either way, they deserve a place of their own.

My goal is for you to feel understood and entertained while you’re here (and hopefully leave with something new to read, watch, play, or try).

How I Choose What to Share

The things I write about come from my actual life and interests. When I recommend a book, show, game, product, or hobby, it is because I have personally read, watched, played, used, or tried it.

If I’m new to something, still learning, or haven’t personally tried it yet, I’ll tell you. I’m much more interested in sharing an honest experience than pretending to be an expert in everything.

You’ll find personal opinions here, and yours may be different. That is part of the fun. Nookish Notions is meant to be a welcoming place where people can discover new favorites, exchange ideas, and enjoy the things that make their free time feel like their own.

A Little More About Me

I live in Central Texas with my husband, our dog, and our kitten.

When I’m not working, I’m usually reading, playing indoor soccer, spending time with my husband and our animals, experimenting with another hobby, or planning a trip I absolutely do not need.

When I was 21, I studied British literature in England and Scotland before traveling solo to Germany. It remains one of my favorite experiences and probably explains at least part of my love for books, travel, and trying unfamiliar things.

My ideal cozy day is much simpler: reading in a hammock in the backyard, my dog beside me, with a coffee or smoothie within reach.

I hope Nookish Notions becomes a place where we can talk about the things we love, discover new favorites, and make our limited free time a little more enjoyable.
